Imperial Bank, it has been announced that, on the analogy of the Reserve Bank shares, market price of 
the share will be taken as the basis

price will be considered for the purpose remains to be decided and is 
probably left to the Reserve Bank 
to recommend. The analogy of 
the Reserve Bank, however, must 
be regarded as inappropriate and 
unfair. Dividend on the Reserve 
Bank shares was limited to 4 per 
cent (taxable); shareholding in the 
Reserve Bank was restricted to 200 
in one name; and all the surplus 
profits of the Reserve Bank went 
to Government. In all these respects, the position of the Imperial 
Bank shares is entirely different. 
There is no limitation on dividend, 
nor on shareholding and its surplus 
profits have been freely ploughed 
back. Thus the Imperial Bank has 
operated as a commercial, private 
profit-making enterprise while the 
Reserve Bank always functioned as 
a State enterprise. Tha t large secret 
leserves have been accumulated by 
the Imperial Bank over the years 
has been widely known; this has 
weighed heavily with the investor 
in Imperial Bank shares who has 
regarded them as near-gilt investment with an intrinsic value much

A Seminar Cum Guidance Camp was held , today , in the office of Sub Regional Employment Officer at DC Office Complex , Jalandhar.

Sub Regional Employment Officer ( Govt. of India ) Mr. Ashish Kullu , Deputy Director , Employment Generation and Training ( Punjab Govt. ) Mrs. Sanjida Beri , Officer In charge ( Punjab Govt. ) Employment Exchange , Mr. Gurmel Singh , Members of  Faculty of Training Institute of Sub Regional Employment Office ( SREO ) gave valuable   knowledge and practical tips on the topic of how to prepare for competitive exams  . A  large number of students were  present.

Property Tax Implemented in Punjab - Urban Punjabis Devastated

At a time when Urban Punjabis were expecting relief from back breaking taxes , Punjab Govt. has gone ahead with Property Tax on Urban  Punjabis.

Earlier when there was a proposal to implement wealth Tax on Rich Farmers ( owning land with in 8 kilometers of cities ) BJP which is a Ruling Coalition Party in Punjab , had threatened to come out in the streets to protest wealth tax on Rich Farmers. Akali Dal had threatened State wide protests.

Now , it remains to be seen what BJP does to save the Non Farmer Punjabis from these discriminatory back breaking taxes. 

Pakistan - India - Dividends of Peace And Co-operation

Jalandhar Thinkers feel :

India must supply electricity to Pakistan even if India does not have surplus of it.

This move stems from the basic geographic closeness between India and Pakistan .

The idea is to further India - Pakistan joint ventures .

This would help a sort of joint Pakistan - India initiative in Afghanistan ( post American departure ) and more importantly , this move , will help keep Pakistan away from China.

Similarly , India should help Pakistan Railways by supplying Diesel engines . Here , also , the Railway systems like gauge etc( as build by British India ) are same .

Some times , decisions have to be taken on strategic considerations.

( Germany in the Second World War , while it was short of U Boats arranged a U - Boat ( submarine ) for Netaji Subhash Chander Bose 's journey to Singapore . )

Dividends of Peace and Co-operation are much more than of hatred and enmity.

No two countries ( not even the USA and Canada ) have more in common than Pakistan and India , be it history , culture , religion , language , rivers , seas , mountains ,economy , railway systems , movies , music etc etc.

Indo - Pakistan border is the most un natural border in  the World.

Jalandhar witnessed very heavy continuous  rainfall from Friday evening till Saturday Noon.

Legend of Shahid Baba Nihal Singh of Talhan ( Jalandhar )

The legendary great martyr Baba Niahal Singh was an artisan- engineer ( Mistry ) residing in village Dakoha near Talhan ( Jalandhar). He belonged to the Ramagarhia community of Sikhs. This community is renowned the world over for their mechanical skills.Baba Nihal Singh was , thus , no fakir or Sant during his life time , in the traditional meaning of a Baba.

Baba Nihal Singh served the people by making pulleys for drinking water wells. His special skills lay in installing his pulleys at the base of the well. People believed that the great Baba was blessed with divinity so that the water wells in which he installed the pulleys never became dry and its water was always sweet.

Once, while installing such pulley Baba Nihal Singh met with a fatal accident. For the common man the Baba became a martyr while he was serving the people .

cremation. This " The grateful people constructed a " Samadhi ' in village Talhan and the place of Baba'sSamadh' was looked after by his faithful associate , Harnam Singh. After Harnam Singh's death , the followers cremated him next to the Baba's Samadhi.

Gradually, the two Samadhis blossomed into a grand Gurudwara. The devotees started holding an annual Mela to mark the death anniversary ( "Barsi " ) of the Baba. This Mela is quite a grand event in Jalandhar.There are sports events like Kabbadi , volleyball and tug-of-war. Gatka displays are held.

The Gurudwara runs a fully modernised charitable hospital. It has recently acquired a Doppler Scan Machine for colour scans.

LK Advani's Excellent Sense of Humour

Regarding LK Advani excellent sense of humour , we recall one incident when we were were students in DU ( St. Stephen`s College ).

 In 1977 , in Moraji Desai`s Govt. LK Advani was Minister for Information and Broadcasting. LK Advani was invited  , by ABVP , to Hindu College.

 In the Auditorium , LK Advani said that he has just come back from Madras ( Chennai ) after inaugurating a Film Festival .

 At the Film Festival , the great character artiste David told Advani that it is rather unfortunate that public copies hair styles of other actors like Rajesh Khanna , Amitabh Bachchan and others but no one copies hairstyle of David ( as he was bald ). To this Advani replied " David Sir , what if the public does not copy your hair style . I copy your Hair Style "

Govt. Should Treat Indian Gold Investors With Respect

Jalandhar Thinkers feel :-

Govt. instead of blaming the Common Man in India for craze for Gold , should do some honest introspection and ask itself the question as to why Indians trust Gold and not other productive investment avenues like Shares etc.

This is because , in the past few years , Govt. has made investment in productive assets as most unattractive both for Indians as well as Foreigners.

Govt. has been concerned only with Vote Bank policies, lost in the din of walkouts, adjournments , Reservations in Promotions , etc etc.

At a time when India needed foreign investment ( Dollars ) the most our Govt comes out with Retrospective Income Tax on Vodaphone ( superseding Hon`ble Supreme Court of India )`

It is not Gold imports but massive imports of Urea , Diesel etc which is upsetting the Balance of Payments.

Govt. should stop treating Gold Investors as Out castes.

In times of National Emergencies ( 1962 - China War , 1993 ) many patriotic Indians ( including our selves gave our entire Gold to Govt ).

There was never a word of appreciation for our contribution ( because we are not Rich Farmers .)
