Jalandhar Readers Appreciate Article in " The Tribune " by Gen Mailk ( Retd ) on Chinese Designs
Jalandhar thinkers have expressed their gratitude to Gen . VP Malik ( Retd ) for highlighting in " The Tribune " dated 30-12-2010 the Chinese designs with regards to the boundary dispute between India and China and the role China is playing to nurture Pakistan to check India. The article , very timely , warns of the Chinese move to exclude around 1600 km of the Indo - Chinese boundary from being " disputed ". Further ,China perceives India to be a soft state.
Jalandhar readers are of the view that China has been very opportunistic in exploiting India- Pakistan tensions. Not only China has captured parts of Indian Kashmir ( Aksai Chin ) it has also grabbed parts of Pakistan administered Kashmir.
China has occupied Aksai Chin since the early 1950s and, in addition, an adjoining region almost 8% of the territory, the Trans-Karakoram Tract was ceded by Pakistan to China in 1963.
Both India and Pakistan should understand the Chinese game. India and Pakistan should think beyond their mutual distrust. They should settle their outstanding issues( including Kashmir ) mutually . But they should not let China exploit them.
India should be pro active both diplomatically and militarily against China India has a vital stake in Tibet. India should pressurize China to honour the commitments given in early 1950s for autonomy of Tibet.
A befriended Pakistan and a liberated Tibet are in India 's strategic interests .
India can work towards both these goals .

A Personal Anecdote From Your Blog Writer
When one of my Uncles was in England ( as nearly all the bicycle manufacturing machinery was imported ) he went one evening with friends / relatives to a Restaurant in London.
After the meal my Uncle gave a tip of 1 Pound to the English Waiter. The Waiter , in return , gave a Majestic Salute to my uncle.
My Uncle , again , took out another Note and gave tip and the White Waiter , again Saluted.
My uncle went on giving the notes and receiving salutes till all the money in his wallet was exhausted.
His co diners were , naturally , very surprised and asked him the reason.
Uncle replied :-
" YEH ANGREZ JO KAL TAK HUM PAR RAAJ KARTEY THEY AAJ HUMAREY EK NOTE DENEY PAR HAMEY SALAAM MAARTEY HAIN. ISS SEY JAYADA JINDAGI MEIN HUMAREY LIYE AUR KYA KHUSHI HOGI . "

Physically Handicapped Want SEPARATE ELECTORATE
To day is being observed as the Day Of The Physically Handicapped. Apart from few cosmetic and perfunctory functions nothing meaningful would be done . The Disabled of India are best forgotten by India 's policy makers including politicians.
Jalandhar thinkers are of the opinion this is because Handicapped do not form creditable VOTE BANK. So India's policymakers both at the Centre or State level see no tangible benefit for themselves or their political parties by spending on the handicapped.
Free electricity is being given in Punjab to rural landlords and SC ( they form valuable Vote Banks ) BUT not to the handicapped . The reality is such that in today's Punjab if an Urban handicapped tries to run a shop from his house ( as he cannot go out ) he is persecuted by the Electricity Board for not using " COMMERCIAL CATEGORY " which is a Penal Rate for which a separate connection is required .
On Toll Plazas , while the Super Rich ( VIP s ) are given exemption and fast passage , the handicapped even in their modest Maruti 800 cars are made to full amount ..
No concession on petrol , road taxes etc is given to the Handicapped .
This is because the handicapped are spread out thinly in the present system of electoral constituencies and hence are powerless before the REAL vote Banks. During Lok Sabha or State Assembly elections , no politician or political party coins even a temporary election time promise or slogan for the Handicapped . This is despite that more than 10 % of Indians are physically challenged .
Handicapped in India should not be included in the normal electoral constituencies The electoral lists should be reworked out. THEY SHOULD BE GIVEN SEPARATE ELECTORATE WHERE THEY CAN ELECT THEIR OWN MPs and MLA s by postal votes. Seats should be reserved for the handicapped as per their population percentage.

Jalandhar Citizens are of the view that Handicapped Persons are , also ,weaker sections of the society and hence deserve to be treated at par with other weaker sections. Physically handicapped should be given :-
Cars Without any Taxes
Exemption From Road Registration Taxes
Free Petrol ( 100 litres a month ). For them cars are not a luxury but some thing essential for them.
Exemption From Toll Plazas
Electricity rebates as are given to other weaker sections
As Physically Handicapped are spread out thinly and do not form a easily a workable vote bank , politicians tend to neglect them.
Hence 5 seats in the Lok Sabha should be nominated ( on the lines of Anglo Indian seat ) for Handicapped Indians .

Emile Schenkl Bose- The Real " Kaiser - E - Hind "
Queen Victoria of England was given by Prime Minister Disraeli the title of " Kaiser -e Hind " meaning in German " Empress of India " . Victoria had German ancestry and Disraeli took great pains to please her.
But for Indians the real Kaiser -E- Hind is not Victoria but EMILE SCHENKL BOSE the Austrian - German wife of Netaji Subhash Chander Bose,one of the most respected National Heroes of India .
Well , had events happened in India's favour and had India been lucky then Independence would have come under Netaji Subhash Chander Bose . The great " ARZI HUKUMAT AZAD HIND " ( Provisional Government of Free India ) based at Singapore would have become the ASLI HUKUMAT AZAD HIND based at New Delhi .
Then ,firstly , there would not have been any partition ( as Netaji , unlike the Congress , had full confidence and trust of Indian Muslims )
And secondly ( as I see in my dreams ) Emile Schenkl Bose ( with daughter Anita Bose ) would have landed in India and the admiring and adulating Indians would have been welcoming India 's real " Kaiser E- Hind " and Emile Schenkl Bose taking her rightful place as the First Lady of " Azad Hind " at the Rashtrapati Bhawan , New Delhi ( A glorious conclusion of Azad Hind Fauz ( Indian National Army's ) " Dilli Chalo " campaign ).

Urban Punjabis Do Not Want to Subsidise Rural Consumers of Electricity
Jalandhar thinkers have expressed their dismay over reports of attacks on electricity employees by Bharatiya Kissan Union in Village Nayore. Electricity employees were merely putting electricity meters at open places where no tampering could take place.
It must be noted that every unit of electricity pilfered or consumed without making payment is ULTIMATELY PAID BY THOSE CONSUMERS WHO PAY THEIR BILLS HONESTLY.
Urban consumers of electricity feel that it is grossly unfair and discriminatory that the burden of providing free electricity to rural landlords ( many of whom own properties worth hundreds of crores ) should be imposed on them ..
When a small shopkeeper in Urban Punjab tries to make a living he is imposed PENAL electricity rates categorized as " COMMERCIAL ". This is as if it is a crime for an Urban Punjabi to make a living.
Urban Punjabis blame the State Government for this modern age "Jazia " to further their vote bank.
Instead of creating divisions Punjab Government SHOULD PROVIDE FREE ELECTRICITY TO ALL PUNJABIS .

Jalandhar Citizens Deeply Concerned at Massive Shooting ( Culling ) of Wild Animals in Himachal Pradesh
Jalandhar Citizens have expressed their deep concern at the reports of en masse killing of wild animals and monkeys in Himachal Pradesh.
Recently , authorities in Himachal Pradesh have given permission to farmers and orchard owners for mass killing of wild animals and monkeys. Governments should not allow themselves to be pressurized by certain vested interests .
Terrified Monkeys are fleeing to other areas.
This conflict between man and wild animals is not new. But wild animals especially the leopard is on the brink.
Himachal Pradesh calls itself as " DEV BHOOMI " with great pride .Earlier all the temples of Jai Mata Di were surrounded by dense forests in Himachal Pradesh. Jai Mata is revered as Mata Sheran Wali.
A proper scientific policy should be worked out in which both man and wild life can co-exist. If forests are destroyed and wild animals killed wantonly today even man's existence is threatened. It is all a delicate Nature's balance.

Jalandhar Passport Applicants Can Receive by SMS Their Application Status on Mobile
Regional Passport Officer Jalandhar , Parneet Singh, announced many applicant friendly steps :-
Applicants can receive by SMS at regular intervals , the the status of their Passport application on mobile.
For this they have to send a SMS giving their file number to :
099884-37900
Thus , Applicant's mobile number would be registered.
After this the Passport Office would send SMS at regular interval informing the applicant the status of his Passport application.
It was further announced that Passports would be ready with in one week of receiving Police verification .
