Quarterly Lok Adalat in Jalandhar Courts To-day ( 06-06-09 )

Jalandhar courts would hold, on 06-06-09 ,seven benches of Lok Adalat ( quarterly fixture of Lok Adalat ). More than 200 cases pertaining to HMA, Mediclaim, other civil and non compoundable criminal cases would be taken up.

This was disclosed by District Legal Services Authority Chairman and Ditrict and Sessions Judge Gurdev Singh.

There are many benefits of Lok Adalat for redressal of grievances.

Every Lok Adalat Decree i.e. Award ( under any prefix like Labour Lok Adalat, Mahila Lok Adalat , Pension Lok Adalat or Pre Lok Adalat , which means a special or extra ordinary Lok Adalat held in between regular Lok Adalat fixtures ) is final . It cannot be challenged by way of an appeal or an independent suit. Only in rarest of rare cases ( where there has been no mutual compromise or settlement ) can an Award of the Lok Adalat be challenged before the High Court by way of a petition.
