Nurmahal Assembly Polls Peaceful ; 71% Turnout ; Result on 15-06-09

Nurmahal Assembly polls which were earlier postponed ( due to post Vienna violence ) were held peacefully with a heavy turnout 0f 71%. The by election were necessiated by the death of the sitting Akali Dal MLA Gurdip Singh Bhullar. Heavy turnout tends to be indicative of anti incumbancy factor and thus favours the opposition candidate.

This time Akali Dal BJP combine had fielded Gurdip Singh Bhullar's widow Rajwinder Kaur Bhullar. Congress had fielded its earlier, candidate Gurbinder Singh Atwal.
